So, photography.
It kind of sucks out your soul, if you're not careful.
I'm in a black-and-white photography class this semester, and it's time consuming. There are so many steps, so many little things that have to be adjusted -- it's crazy.
When taking photos, you have to keep in mind shutter speed, aperture, and the light meter.
When developing the negatives, you have to be careful they don't catch any light until they've been through developer, fixer, and a bunch of other chemicals. That means taking the film out of the little roll and onto a reel in complete darkness, then, when you're back in the light, making sure there's no bubbles or anything like that. Everything has to be carefully timed, too.
And once that's done, you still have to print them, also on light-sensitive paper. A whole 'nother set of chemical processes and times go with that.
I've spent HOURS in the darkroom this semester. Once, it was from 6pm to 3am. It's intense.
But the quality of photo really is better, in my opinion. There's a crispness to it that is hard to get in digital photography -- it looks different, in a way.
Here's a few I've scanned. They've lost some of their original loveliness in the process, but meh. I'll have more coming soonish.
