Priorities

We live like kings.
Almost literally, in fact. The average American has daily access to things that were once considered luxuries.

And yet, as a whole, we don't appreciate it nearly as much as we should.
There is an awful famine in East Africa right now.
(Now, things like drought cannot really be helped. You can't blame anyone for that.)
But there's not enough aid getting through. There's a lot of reasons for that -- piracy, militant groups, hesitancy to spend due to the economy, etc. But still, it bothers me that more attention isn't paid to crises such as these. We have the means; we have an excess we could give if we were willing to.

We do not appreciate our wealth, nor do we give full consideration to the suffering we could be enduring.

I just imagine what the world would be like if we showed more restraint, more generosity, and promoted action rather than blame. Naturally, it's a little more complicated than that, but the first step is promoting the right attitude.

This is definitely a personal opinion, but I feel as if we have a lot of work to do in that area.
